I was wondering how everyone else here feels about the re-make of House of Wax... I love the original one with Vincent Price, he was so wonderfully creepy...Although, it was a bit interesting seeing Paris Hilton get a pole through her head..Any thoughts??

Re: House of Wax?
Fri, December 28, 2007 - 3:31 PMcool set design, bad acting, over top death scenes to makeup for the director's inability to create any real atmosphere of suspense.
The original was fortunate to have Vincent Price. It'd be nice to have a new schlocky horror movie king. Cilian Murphy, Crispin Glover get my votes.

Re: House of Wax?
Sat, December 29, 2007 - 2:46 PMi too, loved the vincent price one...i have the dvd and it has an earlier (?) version on it as well that is not bad. i wasn't really crazy about the re-make. it had a house of wax in it, but not much else related to the other movies! not really sure if it can be called a 're-make', or just a movie that happens to have the same name! -

Re: House of Wax?
Fri, January 11, 2008 - 5:30 PMActually, and I can not remember what year it was, but House of Wax was done before Vincinet Price did it, but still, vincent Price was the best. The original version, done in the 30's or 40's, I think, was sort of boring. -

Re: House of Wax?
Fri, January 11, 2008 - 5:38 PMI found this statement.........................
Mystery of the Wax Museum, made in 1933 is set at the time of its making rather than at the turn-of-the-century but it has more striking set design, with distinct elements of dark and spooky German Expressionism. The movie is also a bit sexier and saucier than its remake; as the tagline says, “Images of wax that throbbed with human passion! Almost woman....what did they lack?”
I wasn't sure if the name was exactly the same, which it wasn't, but this is about the same plot line. -

Wow, for 1933, that was kinda naughty! :)

Re: House of Wax?
Sun, January 13, 2008 - 5:10 PMThey could get away with a lot more in 1933 than in 1953 ... Mystery In The Wax Museum has more sexual innuendo & drug abuse than House Of Wax, as well as that weird gorgeous 30s technicolor. I actually like it a little better than the 1953 version, even without Vincent Price.

Sat, January 12, 2008 - 8:35 AMHouse of Wax with Vincent Price is classic. I haven't seen the new remake, but if Paris gets a pole through her head, it might be worth seeing. Has anyone else seen the new version? If so, what did you think?

Re: House of Wax?
Sat, August 9, 2008 - 3:38 PMI saw the 1953 version a few years ago in 3-D, with polarizing glasses. In other words, true color, 3-D. Great experience, fun movie. It was directed by Andre de Toth, whom I saw at a film festival a few years ago. He was notable for his eyepatch -- only one eye worked. The irony is that he directed a 3-D movie without actually having depth perception.
